Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington, KY

linden 7Today’s photos I bring to you from Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington, KY (http://www.historiclindengrove.org/). Their website administrator is slow to answer emails, if you have any queries, so be patient. She is not an area resident.
I had hopes of getting into the cemetery beyond their normal hours. I suppose I could sneak in… but I am so not stealthy.

Here is the Linden Grove Cemetery Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linden_Grove_Cemetery, it gives even more history.

Linden Grove is the oldest surviving cemetery in the city, older than Cincinnati’s Spring Grove Cemetery.

It’s a lovely little, well kept cemetery, that has been through some drama and neglect in its history. It seems that the folks of Covington weren’t always as enamored with their cemeteries as the folks of Cincinnati were of their Spring Grove.

However, times have changed and Linden Grove is being shown the love! It is meticulously maintained, with improvements always in progress.

In the original design of the cemetery, there was a lovely little pond. It was drained sometime around the late 1960s when there no affection being shown for the cemetery.

BUT… the cemetery has been awarded a grant to replace the pond! I am very excited about this and cannot wait! I still can’t envision EXACTLY where the pond will sit, even with the historical photos I’ve seen (there is one attached at the end of this post). But no matter where it’s located within the cemetery, I know that it will be beautiful!

They are also adding more entrances to the cemetery as there, currently, is only one driveway entrance that is located in an alleyway. This will make the cemetery a lot more visitor-friendly! Linden Grove will get even more love once all of these improvements are complete!

So, do yourself a favor on a nice crisp day and hop off I-75, onto 12th Street and over to Holman… spend a little time in a cemetery full of KY history, peace and photo opportunities that you cannot screw up!

I really need to get back and have a look at her left hand, it appears quite odd in this photo.

A beautiful fall day at the cemetery!

I like that I got my shadow in this shot, however, I do not like that my car is visible in the background... lesson learned!
